Using PhotoEntry
Corley & Fillongley Photographic Club have adopted software called PhotoEntry as its competition software. Shortly after joining the club your email address given to the club will be used to open a PhotoEntry account for you by the Clubs Competition Co-ordinator. Once this is done you will receive an automated password. The email will ask you to log on and change the password to something that you are likely to remember. It is not mandatory that you enter competitions but the software is also used to collect images together occasionally so it would be best to carry out this task as soon as possible. Entering competitions allows judges to give feedback on your image and they often give suggestions on how to improve your image. If you do not receive an email from the software, please check your spam folder. If it is in your spam folder mark the email address as being as acceptable email for your inbox.
PhotoEntry is extremely user friendly and simple to use, just follow the steps below to upload a competition entry:
The basic steps are:
1. From the main menu select the competition group. This will be the competitions for a particular season – Currently Corley 2024
2. From the open competitions select the competition you wish to enter. You can only submit/change/delete entries when the competition is open
3. Check the number of entries that you are allowed for the competition you are entering. It shows as “entries allowed” on the entry screen. The number of entries varies by competition and by the class that you are in.
4. From your editing software export your image as JPGs. Pay particular attention to the image dimensions and the colour space (see below). It doesn’t matter what the filenames are. You cannot upload a JPG that is larger than 10MB.
5. Click on Add New Entry.
6. Supply a Title (watch out for the limited characters you can use), optionally supply a reference, and select the publishing options and click Add This Entry.
7. On the next page select “Choose JPEG” and choose you image from your file storage. On the pop-up window select Open and then select Upload Image.
8. Upload the correct number of images. This will normally be one per entry but could be higher (eg: for a 3-of-a-kind competition)
9. Once the messages for the Entry are green, your entry is accepted. You may still have a warning about image dimensions.
10 Add further entries if you want to and have not already reached the limit for your class. The “Add Entry” button will only be visible when the Competition is open and you are allowed more entries.
The club competition dates are all published as the judging date, not the closing date. All competitions close one week before the judging date. This allows for distribution of images to judges etc: before the night if they wish.
Print competitions require that a DPI (digitally projected image) is uploaded to PhotoEntry by the closing date. This is used for projection only on the night and only the print will be seen by the judge. The DPI is projected onto the screen so that members can all see what the judge is talking about.
